Sign our open letter to your local MP on the Government's emergency Coronavirus Bill.
Dear Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP,
While emergency powers are necessary to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, we are deeply concerned that the Coronavirus Bill transfers far-reaching powers to Ministers for a full two years. This is in contrast with existing regulations under the Civil Contingencies Act which must be reviewed after thirty days.
We ask that you examine the Coronavirus Bill closely and use your vote to make sure that any emergency powers are necessary and short-lived, and that the use of these powers is subject to oversight, transparency and review.
