I joined the Liberal Democrats after the EU referendum and stood as a local Councillor in May 2018 and as a Parliamentary Candidate in the 2019 General Election, taking the Liberal Democrats to second place in Islington South & Finsbury.
I have lived in North East London for 30 years and my husband and I are raising our family here. I am involved in running community groups in Islington; am an active volunteer; and sit on the steering committee of a women’s network. As a civic activist, I understand our community and what we need to prosper, and I know that politics works best if we listen to each other. I was a full-time working parent until 2013 when I switched to part-time work, providing training.
Married to an immigrant and a parent of mixed-race children, diversity, inclusion, tolerance and internationalism are fundamental principles for me and the reason why I joined the Liberal Democrats.
I believe that everyone should have the same chance in life. I believe in a tolerant and inclusive society within which people should be able to make their own choices about how they run their lives. I believe in building a strong sense of community and an environment in which we can all feel a sense of belonging.
London is a great city and could be even better with more Liberal Democrats on the GLA.
