Whipps Cross Bed Cuts

Growing concern over proposed bed cuts in local hospital

While the Liberal Democrats welcome the £2.7bn redevelopment of Whipps Cross, we oppose the proposed cuts to bed numbers, as well as cuts to A&E and the dialysis unit.

Whipps Cross often runs at 98% capacity, and the coronavirus pandemic has shown that demand can unexpectedly and rapidly increase.

Liberal Democrat candidate in the Grove Green by-election, Arran Angus, said, “Our existing hospital has served the needs of local people for a century. We must ensure that the new hospital is capable of supporting the needs of the community now and in the future.

“We have a real opportunity to build a modern, integrated health and social care service fit for the NHS heroes who have led us through the pandemic. We must not waste this opportunity.”
