Waltham DeForest Council

4 May 2022

Data obtained by the Liberal Democrats shows that, since September 2017, the council has removed 58 trees just from Grove Green ward. Many have not been replaced.

Labour has also approved the destruction of mature trees to be replaced with flats at the Lea Bridge Road station development and is planning the removal of another 71 mature trees as part of the Mall development.

Liberal Democrat candidate for Grove Green Arran Angus said, “City trees are good for our air quality, good for our wildlife and good for our mental health.”

“In some cases trees are sick or damaged but in all cases a young tree is not going to have the air cleaning capacity of a mature tree. For that reason, we need to protect the borough’s mature trees from overzealous developers and a council that doesn’t care.”
