Labour Blocks Action on Whipps Cross Delays
The Labour government is under fire after blocking efforts by the Liberal Democrats to restore previously promised funding to rebuild Whipps Cross Hospital.
Liberal Democrat MPs used an Opposition Day in Parliament to force a vote on the funding, calling on the government to reverse its decision to delay the New Hospitals Programme and create a hospitals taskforce to bring construction dates forward.
Unfortunately, despite growing concerns over the crumbling state of our local hospital, the motion was voted down by Labour, including by your local Labour MP, Calvin Bailey.
These government-imposed funding delays mean essential improvement works to Whipps Cross won’t start until 2032 at the earliest, with completion due as late as 2036 or 2038!
Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Arran Angus said, “People in Grove Green deserve a safe, modern hospital, not another decade of delays. Labour made the decision to delay Whipps Cross, and now they’ve blocked efforts to fix it. Liberal Democrats will continue to demand these vital upgrades continue.”
