In 2024, Waltham Forest Council issued over 158,000 parking fines, raking in over £6 million — the second highest haul in the country. Yet roads remain riddled with potholes, and pavements are no better.

Lib Dem campaigner Alan Jones said: “Take a walk—carefully—on the borough’s trip hazard-strewn pavements and you’ll see that potholes and fly-tipping aren’t the only issues missing out on this windfall. Be thankful you’re not a parent with a buggy or an elderly person with a stick.”
