The Edmonton incinerator broke legal emissions limits 31 times last year.

Incorrectly disposed gas canisters were reported as a major cause.

Waltham Forest Council is still pushing ahead with their support for the expansion of the waste incinerator. Costs has spiralled to an eye-watering £1.52 Billion, a 150% increase.

The expansion will not include a new pre-sorting facility to filter out incorrectly disposed waste.

The top six councils for recycling in 2021/22 are all Lib Dem led. The previous year, the top four slots were all Lib Dem led.

In comparison, Labour-run Waltham Forest council sits at 281st out of all councils in England.

Local Liberal Democrat Alex Lewis said, “It is clear that Labour need to go back to the drawing board with their green strategy.”

“The money that went to the incinerator would have been better spent improving our recycling rates.”
