Meet Afzal Choudhry
My name is Afzal Choudhry and I am part of the Liberal Democrats’ Grove Green ward team along with my fantastic colleagues Arran Angus and Naomi McCarthy.
I have lived in Leyton for over 15 years and seen many changes in the area during this time, but three constants are the friendliness, diversity and community spirit of local people.
I strongly believe in interfaith & inter cultural dialogue as vital to creating harmony in humanity, and I have written several books about this.
I run my own property business and in my spare time, I also support a variety of charity organisations. Through my day job and volunteering, I see firsthand the impact of a lack of affordable housing in London has on people of all ages.
I have always held liberal views and joined the Lib Dems in 2017. I believe in their brand of politics, which is inclusive, fair and community-orientated.
Together with my Lib Dem colleagues, we are fighting to preserve and improve public services in the borough, including securing funds for a new Whipps Cross Hospital and better social care. We also need more affordable housing, and for agencies to work together to deal with issues that hurt local people and businesses, such as shoplifting, drug dealing and anti-social behaviour. We also need more resources to support vulnerable young people and steer them clear of criminal activity.
It’s important we take the fight to Labour, who have dominated local politics in Waltham Forest and taken the electorate for granted. I know if elected, we will make a real difference to our borough.
